Man United move looking closer than ever for Thiago

Barcelona midfielder Thiago Alcantara looks set to make a move to Manchester United within the next couple of days – if the latest rumours are to be believed.

There has been speculation regarding the player joining the Premier League champions for some weeks now but, according to the Observer, things are finally starting to progress.

The Observer quote a ‘highly placed source’ who claims there is a “good chance” he will be persuaded to join by a huge increase in his current £30,000-a-week wages.

It would be a big signing for new United boss David Moyes and would certainly give the Manchester side another option in midfield – an option that many people feel United have been missing for some time now.

Meanwhile the Metro reckon that Nani could be on his way to Roma after another disappointing season for United and the Sunday Mirror are reporting that Arsenal and Chelsea are both still keen to lure Wayne Rooney away from Old Trafford.

Moyes has said that Rooney is not for sale though and, having taken such a strong position, he will be determined to hang on to his man and make sure his time in Manchester starts with a big PR victory.

Finally, Mark Hughes is apparently poised to stick with his policy of buying aging Premier League stalwarts – a policy that didn’t exactly serve him well at QPR – and is looking to take Jermain Defoe to Stoke, according to the Sunday People.
