Hamilton hopes for first win of 2013 on Vettel’s home soil

Lewis Hamilton is yet to win a race for Mercedes, but the pace of both he and Silverstone race-winning team-mate Nico Rosberg bodes well for his chances for the German Grand Prix.
Hamilton stormed round the Nurburgring to plant his car on pole position for the race, just ahead of expected race rivals Sebastian Vettel and Mark Webber.
There has been little to split the Mercedes and Red Bull drivers this weekend, and Vettel qualified just one tenth of a second behind Hamilton.
The three-time champion was comfortably leading last Sunday in Britain, before gearbox failure robbed him of 25 points.
It was the first retirement of the season for Vettel, and he has yet to cross the line in a position lower than fourth.
Historically Vettel hasn’t gone well at the Nurburgring, but his performance so far this weekend suggests he’s still a main contender for the win, and a price of 11/10 could tempt many.
Red Bull stable mate Webber is third on the grid, and has often had the edge on Vettel at the famous venue, winning in 2009 and finishing second in 2011.
The Aussie is a very appealing 6/1 for a first win of the season, and is in fine form following a storming drive through the field to finish second last Sunday in England.
Those looking for a winner further down the order may well give serious consideration to Nico Rosberg at 20/1.
The German has won twice this year as well as taking three pole positions, but a strategic error in qualifying by his Mercedes team left him stranded in 11th on the grid with arguably the fastest car in the field.
