PSG in for unsettled Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney
Published:Wayne Rooney has been told he can name his terms on a move to Ligue 1 champions Paris Saint-Germain this summer.
Retired Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson said at the end of this season just gone that Rooney had handed in a transfer request, although speculation over his future had simmered down in recent weeks.
However, according to reports, incoming boss David Moyes is still yet to speak to his former Everton striker, with PSG now attempting to convince Rooney to switch to France.
The 27-year-old is thought to have been approached by PSG through England intermediaries during the Three Lions’ trip to Brazil, with their Maracana friendly scheduled for tomorrow.
Rooney has been told to name his terms over a move to the French capital, with an opening offer of £300,000 per week after tax on the table.
Moyes retains hope of keeping the England goalscorer at Old Trafford next season, but Rooney may be tempted to improve upon his current £250,000 per week before tax contract on the continent.
PSG’s wealthy Qatari owners have made the United number 10 their top transfer target this summer, and are determined to secure his services having seen coveted Colombian hitman Falcao complete his move to fellow French spenders Monaco.
Carlo Ancelotti may not be remaining as manager of the Paris-based outfit for much longer – with rumours of a switch to Real Madrid gathering pace – but Rooney has been informed of their desire to agree a four-year deal with him.
England duties and the birth of his second son Klay has put off Rooney’s scheduled meeting with Moyes, which will play a big part in the former Toffees star’s decision.
But having clashed in 2006 over claims made in Rooney’s autobiography, the pair’s relationship is not as good as it once was.
And if the Liverpool-born forward decides on pastures new, PSG are ready to match the £30 million United paid Everton for Rooney nearly a decade ago.
