Man Utd disappointed as Lewandowski saga takes new twist

Published:

First he was certain to go to Manchester United and then he had his heart set on following club-mate Mario Gotze to Bayern Munich, but after much toing and froing, the latest is that Robert Lewandowski will definitely be staying at Borussia Dortmund next season.

Even though Lewandowski’s contract is up next summer, Dortmund have obviously decided that confirming plans for next season with training due to start soon is now a chief priority, even if that means that the Pole will be free to leave for nothing next June when his contract is up.

Dortmund chief executive Aki Watzke has made the statement and if his words are to be believed, 4/6 would be a fine price that Lewandowski remains a Dortmund player at the end of the summer transfer window.

However, if Dortmund do receive the right offer, there is still a chance that the club may do business, especially as the player, regardless of how professional he is, may have difficulty reproducing his best now he has upset the Westfalenstadion support in recent months.

Bayern, Lewandowski’s dream club, have so far refused to meet Dortmund’s demands of approximately €30m and speculation hints that they may now wait until next summer to land their man.

It is 2/1 that Lewandowski joins Bayern in the summer transfer window, with 3/1 the price that he is a Manchester United player by September 1st.

Rio Ferdinand is trying his best to persuade Lewandowski to sign at Old Trafford by stating that any player improves for joining Manchester United and there is the possibility that Dortmund are more likely to sell if it is to a club outside of Germany.

Alternatively, it is 12/1 that either Chelsea or Manchester City manage to capture Lewandowski this summer.
