Juventus join Italian rivals Milan in pursuit of Man City’s Tevez
Published:The bell could be about to toll for some of Manchester City’s older stars as new broom Manuel Pellegrini sets about assessing and putting his own stamp on the squad he has inherited from outgoing boss Roberto Mancini.
Among those in the firing line is sometime heroic striker, sometime team spirit timebomb and long-time AC Milan target Carlos Tevez, with Juventus the latest club to show an interest in taking him on.
Tevez is reportedly still in the dark over whether or not he features amongst the Chilean gaffer’s thoughts for the Sky Blues next term.
Having spent his time at the Etihad in a state of near perpetual dissatisfaction, the hands of the clock have ticked round to the last year of golfer/footballer Tevez’s £196,000 a week contract.
Now 29-years-old, any new deal inked could potentially be his last at a top club in Europe before a swansong with alma mater club Boca Juniors.
Milan’s interest is relatively longstanding and with the Argentinian reputedly willing to take a substantial pay-cut to ease his passage to San Siro the only stumbling block is former City boy Robinho’s presence on the roster.
The Rossoneri will look to part-finance the deal by selling the Brazilian to Santos for £5m and can be backed at 3/1 to land Tevez before the end of the summer transfer window.
Juventus have emerged as serious competitors for the City man’s signature after seemingly being priced out of a move for Real Madrid goal-poacher Gonzalo Higuain – Arsenal now look the most likely destination for Santiago Bernabeu also-ran – and currently rate 6/5 favourites to be his employer when the transfer window closes.
Considering the respective striking resources of his two Italian suitors a move to Turin would offer Tevez a greater shot at regular first team appearances.
Milan already boast Mario Ballotelli, M’Baye Niang, Stephan El Shaarawy and Giampaolo Pazzini – all of whom performed with credit in the last campaign.
Juve on the other hand have an absence of strikers who have made the shirt their own and Tevez would probably have only summer signing Fernando Llorente and Mirko Vucinic to compete with.
