Under pressure Mark Webber good value to enjoy Monaco again

Following a hugely eventful start to his 2013 Formula One season, Mark Webber will undoubtedly be delighted to return to the streets of Monaco for the next Grand Prix.

The notoriously unforgiving track has been kind to the Australian in recent years, with both 2010 and 2012 seeing the Red Bull driver register victories which helped take his career total to nine race wins.

That total would have reached double figures had Sebastian Vettel not ignored team orders and ‘stolen’ a win from his 36-year-old teammate at the Malaysian Grand Prix in March, and with Webber still winless this campaign Red Bull chief Christian Horner has been facing questions over whether or not the Aussie will keep his seat next year.

With the question marks over his future seemingly hovering around him the Monaco Grand Prix may have arrived at just the right time for Webber, who is priced at 12/1 to taste victory by the banks of the Mediterranean Sea for a third time in four years.

The millionaire’s playground seemingly brings out the best in the former Jaguar and Williams driver, who is 8/1 to set the fasest qualifying time in Q3.

Will Red Bull’s apparent preference for Vettel – currently the 6/5 favourite for the Drivers’ Championship after amassing 89 points – perhaps coming into consideration in the race, those urging more caution over Webber’s chances may perhaps look to back him at 5/2 for a podium finish and 4/6 to come in the top six.

With Vettel in ominous form at the start of the season, Ladbrokes offer 4/1 that both Red Bull drivers finish on the podium in Monaco – where their cars have won all of the last three races.
