Unbeaten filly Banoffee has the pedigree to impress in Epsom Oaks

Having been supplemented to the field at a cost of £30,000, there are literally thousands of reasons for Banoffee to impress in Friday’s Epsom Oaks.

As one of 12 going forward for the mile-and-a-half Classic taking place on day one of the Derby meeting, Hughie Morrison’s three-year-old filly is sure to face competition from Ralph Beckett’s Secret Gesture and Aidan O’Brien’s heavily-fancied Moth, both of whom are available at 5/2.

But if that price doesn’t tempt you then the 8/1 on offer for Banoffee to taste success surely will.

The daughter of the celebrated former Arc and King George winner Hurricane Run, Banoffee was unraced as a juvenile but exploded into action with an impressive showing on her debut at Newbury in April, winning a maiden which subsequent Oaks winners Eswarah and Dancing Rain were victorious in on their own paths to Epsom glory.

Richard Hughes was on board for that Whitley Stud Stakes victory last month, but when Kieren Fallon – who had a successful partnership with Hurricane Run – took the ride for the Cheshire Oaks at Chester earlier this month the filly appeared to step up in quality.

Those two wins give Morrison’s charge the chance to become the first horse to win both the Cheshire and Epsom Oaks since Sir Henry Cecil’s Light Shift in 2007, whilst also completing a pretty impressive hat-trick on her first three times out.

Six-time Champion Jockey Fallon will extend his promising partnership with Banoffee on Friday, and although the claims of Lingfield winner Secret Gesture as well as O’Brien’s Moth and Sir Michael Stoute’s 3/1 Liber Nauticus cannot be ignored, the form suggests that the pair can impress for Morrison again.
