Spurs must go all out to rob young gun from under Dortmund’s noses

Although Son Heung-Min would not be the answer to Tottenham’s continued and drawn-out quest for a new centre forward, there is every reason to believe that the club should be pushing the boat out slightly to ensure they secure his signature.

Hamburg seem set to sell the talented 20-year-old this summer as he only has a year left on his current deal and there are sure to be a host of clubs monitoring his situation with interest.

Borussia Dortmund are towards the front of the queue with Son potentially serving as a replacement for the departing Mario Gotze, although rumours have also been strong that an offer is in the pipeline for highly-regarded Dane Christian Eriksen.

Spurs are not short on attacking midfield options, but are not blessed with great depth in the wider areas should anything happen to Gareth Bale or Aaron Lennon.

Son would fill this void as his more natural game does seem to be when given the licence to run at players and he would be an adequate replacement in any of the four attacking positions in Andre Villas-Boas’ chosen formation.

Gareth Bale has enjoyed some success more centrally this season, but Tottenham have arguably been slightly weakened by having to play Clint Dempsey or Gylfi Sigurdsson in positions wider than they would choose to play.

Son would be a better fit in this role to give Bale free roam, while Spurs fans should expect to see better from Lewis Holtby too next season, having failed to replicate his best so far since signing from Schalke as he acclimatises to his new surroundings.

There may additionally be off-the-field benefits to Tottenham from such a transfer as it could enhance their reputation and following in Asia.

In terms of a striker, Spanish radio reports indicate that the club have had a meeting with David Villa and the two parties are close to agreeing a deal.

Playing in the Champions League is something that would only boost Tottenham’s chances of signing any of their targets this summer and it is 2/1 they finish in the top four of the Premier League, which they will do if they beat Sunderland on the final day and Arsenal fail to defeat Newcastle.
