Rory McIlroy a certainty to enter World Golf Hall of Fame

Northern Irish golfing sensation Rory McIlroy is odds on at 1/2 with Ladbrokes to be inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame once he hits 40.

The youngster has already snared two major titles after his US Open win in 2011 and his PGA Championship victory the following year.

The Ulsterman has time on his side thanks to his tender years. He only turned 24 this week and has as many Major wins under his belt at this stage of his career as a certain Tiger Woods, so if he can in anyway replicate the career of the American he is destined for a prosperous and Major-filled career.

He struggled in the first of the Big Four in 2013 only just making the top-25 but his undoubted pedigree has seen him record three top-three finishes and a top-10 placing to go alongside his two titles in an abundantly fruitful previous four seasons.

A strong showing at the Players Championship will do no harm to the world number two’s chances of joining golf’s elite but he will have to overcome a poor record at Sawgrass, where he has yet to shoot a sub-par round, a fact possibly reflected in his 16/1 price.

When it is considered that perennial bridesmaid Colin Montgomerie recently became a Famer, it is hard to fathom how a two-time Major winner with his entire career ahead of him cannot join the party at some point in the next 16 years.

Another nearly man, Lee Westwood, is 3/1 to be inducted but he will need to relinquish the aforementioned tag if he is to do so.

The Worksop-born man has finished in the top trio at seven Majors and if he can finally get over the line he could be a shoo-in for the honour.

A man who already has a US Open to his name is Graeme McDowell.

The 33-year-old has finished 12^th or higher in four of his last five Major appearances and if he can translate consistency into another victory he could be superb value at 10/1.
