Real’s derby dominance doesn’t look like ending soon

This year’s Copa del Rey final is sure to be a feisty affair as the two Madrid clubs do battle on Real’s doorstep at the Bernabeu.

Jose Mourinho’s men are 1/2 to claim a second cup win in three years, whilst Atletico are making just a second final appearance since 2000.

Despite being dumped out of the Champions League by Borussia Dortmund, Los Blancos have been in superb form domestically, and are unbeaten in 15 league and cup matches – a run dating back over three months.

As if that wasn’t daunting enough for Los Rojiblancos, Real have also won the last 10 meetings with their city rivals, which goes a long way to explaining the 5/1 underdog price on Diego Simeone’s side to claim a rare derby victory.

Mourinho’s dominance has been particularly evident in recent clashes at the Santiago Bernabeu, with each of his side’s last four meetings ending in a two-goal winning margin, and the 18-time cup winners are 7/2 to win by a two-goal margin once again.

Goals are often in abundance in this famous derby though, with both teams finding the net in nine of the last 11 meetings.

Atletico head to the final boasting the cup’s top goal scorer this season in Diego Costa on seven, while the talents of Radamel Falcao cannot be ignored either – Europe’s most in-demand marksman has netted in two of his last three matches against Real.

With that in mind, Real to win 3-1 at 9/1 could tempt many.

Atletico have often made a good fist of it in the first 45 minutes against their capital city counterparts, and have gone in at the break level in three of the last seven meetings.

Real have gone on to win in all of those matches however, and a Draw/Real Madrid on the Half-time/Full-time market at 10/3 might be worth backing.
