Mourinho revelations see odds on his Chelsea return slashed

Real Madrid’s failure to overhaul Borussia Dortmund’s first-leg advantage in the Champions League semi-final, prompted Jose Mourinho to make some suggestive comments regarding his Los Merengues tenure.

After Mourinho, who was already the favourite to land the Chelsea job following Rafa Benitez’ pending departure prior to the Dortmund defeat, stated he wanted to go somewhere where he ‘was loved’, the price for him to return to the Blues this summer was whittled down to a miserly 1/8.

Speculation has been rife regarding the Special One’s return to west London after being spotted house-hunting in the area earlier in the year, while his time at Real has been studded with internal spats and a disdain of the media.

He’s made no secret of his desire to one day return to the Premier League and, having smoothed over his issues with Roman Abramovich, Stamford Bridge seems a likely destination for the Portuguese.
The only issue that may scupper any punters who lump on this paper-thin price is that, should Manchester City decide to sever ties with Roberto Mancini in order to pursue the 50-year-old, he could be swayed by the unlimited resources on offer at the Etihad.

However, the Barcelona-centric boardroom City have put in place will be an obvious deterrent, while it’s believed Mourinho has his eyes on the Manchester United job one day and it’s unlikely managing their arch rivals would aid his cause in fulfilling that dream.

A Citizens switch is highly unlikely and, despite the long-odds on offer elsewhere in the market, there are no other competitors who could result in pay out.

Having a punt on 10/1 Manuel Pellegrini has a little substance given the quality of job he’s done in his current position at Malaga, as well as having the sort of CV that would get Abramovich’s juices flowing. Yet, it is believed the Chiliean is unlikely to be persuaded to depart his financially-ruined current club.

David Moyes follows at 14/1, but this price should be far longer. The Scot, for all the hype surrounding him, has never achieved anything in his time at Everton, has no experience handling big-name players, has flopped on every European foray he’s embarked upon and, above all else, could not handle the instability that comes with managing the Blues.

The only punt worth having on this market is on Mourinho.
