Man Utd and Spurs should join Liverpool in playmaker hunt

Speculation suggests that €15m is the price that Ajax are hoping to receive for Christian Eriksen and for that money he could easily prove the biggest bargain of the whole summer.

Yet, the only real interest in the Dane seems to be from Borussia Dortmund, who have rightly highlighted him as a suitable replacement for outbound Mario Gotze.

Ajax director of football Marc Overmars has been quick to indicate that an offer has not been received from Dortmund as yet and there is a wonder why Eriksen is not being more coveted by those at the head of the Premier League.

Liverpool have been partly interested previously, but it is believed that Philippe Coutinho’s inspired form at the end of this season has resulted in Brendan Rodgers earmarking him for the central playmaking role moving forward.

But Eriksen is very flexible in where he can play, floating from being a false nine on certain occasions for Ajax this season, to starting deeper on other occasions as a more conventional central midfielder.

Manchester United need to strengthen in this area more than most and much will depend on the plans David Moyes has for Shinji Kagawa next season and how serious the chase is of Barcelona youngster Thiago Alcantara, who could perform the midfield shuttler role that would seemingly suit Eriksen best.

Eriksen could be a real asset in collecting the ball fairly deep and then carrying the ball quickly into the final third. His ball retention skills and eagerness to keep the ball moving would be an additional asset.

However, his ability to locate space could make him a better fit for Tottenham, especially if aiding the likes of Gareth Bale and Aaron Lennon to influence play.

Lewis Holtby is also clearly a fine player despite his slow start at Spurs and the capture of Eriksen may help his development.

Tottenham and Liverpool are both deemed to have strong chances of breaking into the top four next season at 5/4 and 13/8 respectively in the Premier League odds and there is little doubt that Eriksen would be a top-drawer addition to either squad.
