Man United star wants to join Bayern Munich’s revolution

As Sir Alex Ferguson’s Manchester United tenure draws to a close, a stalwart of the club’s playing staff is also thought to be considering his next move.

And he comes in the form of Wayne Rooney, who is reportedly willing to call time on his nine-year Old Trafford career in the aftermath of a season in which he has fallen down the United pecking order somewhat.

Indeed, Rooney has been employed deeper and deeper throughout the season, as summer arrival Robin van Persie took the mantle as the Red Devils’ main man up front.

It is now thought that the 27-year-old is therefore seeking a new challenge, as he looks to play out the peak years of his career in his favoured position.

Bayern Munich is his preferred destination, and the England star has reportedly confided in friends that he is desperate to secure a move to the Allianz Arena during the close season.

Rooney is said to be flattered by interest from the Bavarian giants, whilst Pep Guardiola is desperate to make a player he coveted during his reign at Barcelona one of his first marquee signings for the Bundesliga champions.

And dependent on the club’s new manager, Rooney could be allowed to leave for around £30m.

French champions-elect PSG remain in the hunt for the forward’s signature, and could offer Rooney a more extravagant salary package to opt for Paris.

But as aforementioned, the former Everton trainee is thought to have his heart set on a move to Bayern, with the opportunity to link up with Guardiola as appealing a prospect as joining a club with such a rich history.

If the ex-Barca chief can guarantee Rooney first-team football alongside the likes of the incoming Mario Gotze, and potential summer arrival Robert Lewandowski, England’s fifth all-time top scorer could find himself at home in Germany next season.
