Man City to go out in style with high scoring win over Norwich

The 2012-13 Premier League campaign has failed to live up to the adrenalin-filled, all-action final day theatre of last year, but once again Manchester City could be the name on everyone’s lips when the curtain closes.

While cries of “Aguerooooo” will not be ringing out after Manchester United cantered to a 13th Premier League crown, the Citizens look best placed to go out in style and take part in the highest scoring game on the final day.

Caretaker manager Brian Kidd welcomes Norwich City to the Etihad knowing his side has notched a staggering 15 goals past the Canaries in their last three meetings.

Norwich also scored in each of those ties, netting five times to give a total of 20 goals. In fact, over a ten-game period, this tie has produced the joint-highest goal average of any of the final-day games at 3.9 strikes per match.

With all that in mind – plus the fact City’s strikers will be out to impress their new manager (Pelligrini or otherwise)  – the 6/1 on City v Norwich being the highest scoring game of the last day looks to be a sound investment.

However, while that game is dead rubber – with neither team having anything tangible to play for – Arsenal will be looking to secure an easy passage to the Champions League group stage with a convincing win over Newcastle.

Last time the sides met, Arsenal ran out 7-3 winners in a game where everything seemed to fly in and while that was a standout result, this tie has long been a high scoring affair.

The Magpies and the Gunners have also produced a 3.9-goal average over the last ten meetings, with only two of those games yielding fewer than three goals, and at 7/1 to outscore everyone else on Sunday these sides could attract a lot of attention.

One thing is for certain though, and that is that all eyes will be on the Hawthorns, where Sir Alex Ferguson will take charge of Manchester United for the very last time.

The Champions will look to give the bespectacled managerial behemoth the send-off he deserves with a resounding win over West Brom and history suggests that more than three goals will be scored.

United have netted in 19 of the last 20 meetings with the Baggies, scoring 27 times in the last ten, while Steve Clarke’s men managed a goal every other game against United in that time, giving the sides an average of 3.3 goals per game.

Again,  priced at 7/1 to be the highest scoring game of the day it would take a brave punter to go against Robin van Persie and co ensuring Fergie goes out with a bang.
