Ladbrokes top price on Rodgers quitting Liverpool for Man City

Literally everything points to Manuel Pellegrini being appointed as the next Manchester City manager at present, but punters willing to take on the 1/6 favourite for the post could do worse than have a small saver on Brendan Rodgers.

Pellegrini was heavily linked with the job before Roberto Mancini was given the boot, but has so far denied that he has agreed any deal with last season’s Premier League champions.

He certainly fits the bill in a number of areas, including having strong runs in the Champions League with clubs with weaker squads than Man City, having the ability to bring a sense of identity to the club as a whole and the tactical astuteness to mould a team to play in the style wanted by Txiki Begiristain.

The sporting director has ambitions to get Man City playing a 4-3-3 formation at all levels and this is something that strengthens Rodgers chances of replacing Mancini, with Ladbrokes offering the top industry price on such a scenario at 33/1.

Rogers has sampled a range of different formations at Liverpool this season, with Luis Suarez performing as a lone striker earlier in the campaign with relative success.

Meanwhile, Sky Sports have suggested that Man City are seriously considering Rodgers on their shortlist and he looks a big price for a job where obvious contenders are thin on the ground.

Jose Mourinho is second favourite at 7/2, but it is unlikely that the Man City hierarchy of Begiristain and chief executive Ferran Soriano would entertain such a move and they previously opted against Mourinho when deciding who should replace Frank Rijkaard at Barcelona.

Yet the betting suggests that it is a two-man race to replace Mancini, with Jurgen Klopp and Carlo Ancelotti coming next and they are both 20/1.
