Highest Scoring match: United to sink stuttering Swans

Swansea are the opposition for Sir Alex Ferguson’s final game in charge of Manchester United in front of the club’s own fans, and it has been suggested that the Swans are the ideal visitors for an Old Trafford mauling. The match is a 7/2 favourite to see the most goals this weekend.

Since their winning exploits in the Capital One Cup came to a close Swansea have been riding out the season with understandable languor; their bright start to the campaign has kept them at arms length from the relegation battle – though they come here with just one win from eight.

Games at Old Trafford this season have seen an average 3.39 goals – second only to The Emirates – and there’s every chance that could be surpassed here, with United’s greatest ever manager sure to want to leave the Old Trafford dugout on a memorable high.

Aston Villa host Chelsea on Saturday, in what has been a goal-laden affair in recent times. Villa were dispatched 8-0 at Stamford Bridge in December, with even the much maligned Fernando Torres finding the net – his last in the Premier League. The match is 4/1 to see the most goals this weekend.

The corresponding fixture last term saw a 2-4 Chelsea victory (and included another Torres goal, incidentally), while four of the last five encounters have seen at least four strikes.

With Villa not yet safe, and a win all but securing Champions League football at Stamford Bridge next season, both sides will go into the game in need of three points – which history suggests should prompt a gluttony of goalmouth action.

Liverpool’s trip to Fulham should also provide plenty of entertainment, and most probably for the travelling throng.

Brendan Rogers’ side scored six times on their last away trip (to Newcastle), and beat Fulham 4-0 at Anfield earlier this term. The Reds have now scored more goals on their travels than on home soil, and have strong form at Craven Cottage. This fixture saw seven strikes two seasons ago, Liverpool running out 5-2 winners.

Martin Jol’s side have now lost five and drawn one of their last six games, the most recent being a 4-2 home defeat to an already relegated Reading side. This fixture is 5/1 to see the most goals.
