French Open accumulator: Pavlyuchenkova to be shock exit
Published:Although the rain in Paris has delayed the conclusions to some of the first round action in the women’s draw at the French Open, the majority of the second round match-ups are now known.
And we believe we have uncovered an accumulator of eight results from the first batch of these clashes that pays out to the tune of 23/1.
The big upset to bump up the price is Petra Cetkovska to beat Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova and this was the result on the only previous occasion when the pair clashed on clay.
Meanwhile, the number 19 seed has hardly set the world alight on the surface most recently, winning only two games in Rome against Romina Oprandi and the needing three sets to see off Andrea Hlavackova in her opening match at Roland Garros, when also up against it in a second-set tie-break.
One German has suffered a surprise exit at the French Open already, when Julia Goerges was dumped out by Zuzana Kucova, but the same fate is unlikely to derail compatriots Angelique Kerber and Sabine Lisicki.
Kerber has only lost to fellow big names Maria Sharapova and Ana Ivanovic this season and should be too powerful for Jana Cepelova, while Lisicki has a slightly trickier contest with Spain’s Maria-Teresa Torro-Flor.
As for Kucova, her first career Grand Slam success is rewarded with a clash against Virginie Razzano, most famous for knocking Serena Williams out here 12 months ago.
Razzano won the only previous meeting between the pair and can do so again.
Carla Suarez Navarro appears the biggest banker of the accumulator against young American Shelby Rogers, while Sorana Cirstea can make it three wins from three against Johanna Larsson.
Our other picks are Varvara Lepchenko to see off Elina Svitolina and Urszula Radwanska to follow up on eliminating Venus Williams with a success over Dinah Pfizenmaier.
