Ferguson and Coyle look the two to focus on to be next Wolves boss

Darren Ferguson has quickly emerged as the favourite at 9/2 to take over at Wolves and it could well be between him and Owen Coyle as to who replaces Dean Saunders as the club’s new manager in League One.

The Wolves board have certainly had issues making the right managerial appointment in the past 12 months, with Saunders the fourth manager that has been shipped from the post.

Whether this is the right move remains open to debate as he inherited a shambles of a squad that was always going to be tough to sort out in a short timeframe, while his League One experience with Doncaster could have been an asset for next season.

Wolves certainly need stability with relegation from the Championship confirmed and although the club need to cut costs, decent money may still be spent in luring the right manager to Molineux.

Ferguson is not only a former Wolves player, but would almost certainly be in a stronger position than most League One managers when it comes to attracting players on loan.

His style of football at Peterborough will also not be lost on Wolves supporters and may make him a more popular appointment and he has a track record in League One promotion.

Micky Adams was initially the favourite, but has since drifted to 7/1 and so the main challenger to Ferguson could well prove to be Owen Coyle at 8/1.

In terms of the bigger name managers, Coyle may be more willing than most to drop back into League One in the hope of restoring some of his reputation and he has an obvious point to prove.

Further down the next Wolves manager betting at a bigger price, Phil Neville may be one to consider at 25/1.

He said on Match Of The Day recently that he is interesting in having a crack at management and League One is the type of level where he may expect a first opportunity.
