Fenerbahce try to tempt Torres to Turkey and away from Chelsea
Fernando Torres is the latest star to be linked with Fenerbahce’s bid to reclaim the Super Lig crown.
The Istanbul-based giants have conceded the Turkish title to rivals Galatasaray for two years in a row and are looking to boost their ranks with players boasting experience in the Premier League and Torres certainly fits the bill.
Aykut Yildirim has already tempted the likes of Dirk Kuyt, Joseph Yobo and Raul Meireles to the Sukru Saracoglu Stadium and will be aware that Torres’ days at Stamford Bridge could be numbered.
While Jose Mourinho has all but been named the new Chelsea manager, the west London outfit have remained tight-lipped over any potential transfer targets.
However, the Blues have been linked with a number of attacking options over the last few weeks, with Bayern Leverkusen’s Andre Schurrle reportedly set to join the Europa League champions.
Romelu Lukaku could also be in line for a starting berth at Chelsea next season after impressing on loan at West Brom. The young Belgian fits the mould of a Didier Drogba-type forward and could endear himself to Mourinho who relied so heavily on the Ivorian.
All this could persuade Torres to call time on his stay in the capital and reports in Turkey suggest €13-€16 million could be enough to bag the Spaniard.
Whoever leads the line at Stamford Bridge next year, the betting shows that Chelsea are almost guaranteed a Champions League spot with odds of 1/8 on a top four finish.
With Mourinho set to be at the helm, anything could happen for the Blues and 5/2 says they will reclaim the Premier League crown, while 1500/1 is available on an unlikely relegation to the Championship.
