Donaldson and Madden to decide play-off final fate

Yeovil have defied the odds all season. Perennial favourites to suffer relegation, Gary Johnson’s men made the play-offs and then, after suffering a 1-0 loss to Sheffield United in the first leg of their semi-final, they went on to overcome the deficit and book a place at Wembley.

They will kick-off at the national stadium with their usual tag of underdogs and are currently available at 11/5 to be the victors over the 90 minutes, while favourites Brentford are 5/4.

The Glovers have been propelled to the verge of the Championship off the back of an outstanding season from their 23-year-old striker Paddy Madden.

Madden arrived on loan from Carlisle having scored just twice in 32 appearances for the Brunton Park outfit. He went on to take the chance afforded him as he smashed 10 goals in his 15 starts before the Somerset club secured the Irishman’s signature on a two-and-a-half-year deal.

The Dublin-born hitman continued his fine form as he registered another 13 times in 20 more outings and ended the campaign as the league’s top scorer.

Madden looks a great price at 5/1 to open the scoring in this clash – as he did when these two sides met at Huish Park – while he seems almost certain to find the net anytime at 6/4.

The youngster has hit five doubles this term and those punters expecting Yeovil’s star man to thrive on the big stage can back him to register a trio of strikes at 33/1,.

However, Brentford also have a striker who has enjoyed a fruitful campaign.

Clayton Donaldson was outshone slightly by the precocious Madden but the former Crewe man has still rattled in 20 league strikes, including a double in the Bees’ drama-laden semi-final success.

The 29-year-old is available at 5/1 to break the deadlock, while his price of 6/4 to net anytime will appeal after his impressive showing against Swindon.

The Yorkshireman’s brace in that fixture was his fifth of a prosperous campaign and the 33/1 about him notching a Wembley hat-trick should be given some attention.
