Carl Froch fighting fit ahead of forthcoming Mikkel Kessler test
Published:IBF world super-middleweight champion Carl Froch is pulling no punches as he prepares for another bout with the man who inflicted his first professional defeat upon him.
The 4/7 Brit takes on Denmark’s Mikkel Kessler at London’s O2 Arena in May, and the Nottingham fighter claims that he’s in the best shape of his life ahead of the contest.
“I feel like everything is clicking in training and sparring has been fantastic, I couldn’t ask to be in a better place than I am right now,” the 35-year-old told the BBC.
“I am getting that tingle in my hands and down my spine now, I know that feeling well and it means that I’m ready to fight.”
Froch’s motivation to face the 11/8 Dane comes from his defeat in front of Kessler’s home crowd in Herning, Denmark three years ago. The loss was Froch’s first of a now 32 fight career which has featured 30 wins and 22 by way of knockout.
Kessler won by unanimous decision in 2010, snatching Froch’s WBC super-middleweight title in the process, and although ‘The Viking Warrior’ is 3/1 to repeat that method of victory in London, Froch will be hoping that home advantage suits him this time.
“He’s very, very sharp,” said Froch’s trainer Robert McCracken, who saw his charge knock out both Lucien Bute and Yusuf Mack in 2012. “To be in the shape he is in five weeks out is a very good sign.
“I’m very confident he’s going to do the business.”
With Froch in top condition the 13/8 on offer for ‘The Cobra’ to win by a decision may tempt many, whilst those even more confident in him will be looking to back a win by knockout, TKO or disqualification at 5/2.
