West Brom v Newcastle: Expect late show to seal Baggies victory

Published:

West Brom’s tremendous progress this season has slowed down somewhat in recent weeks, with their eighth-place standing a testament to how impressive their campaign on the whole has been.

And in a home tie with Newcastle, they can claim victory at 6/5 to further cement their position in the top half, and add more credibility to lingering Magpies relegation fears.

Indeed, the Toon have lost three of their last four matches to leave them just five points adrift of the drop zone, and the fact that they have won only once on the road this term will deter punters from the 11/5 about an away success here.

With draws either side’s least popular result this season, that outcome is also likely to see little support as a 12/5 chance.

But for increased value, it looks worth backing both teams to find the net in company with the match result.

Each defence has been breached in all of the last 10 encounters between this pair, and with the Baggies losing only once at home to lower-half opposition this term, they look worth investment at 13/4 to win a match in which both teams score.

Meanwhile, given that three or more goals have occurred in the past seven meetings of the two teams, betting on a West Brom success involving at least 2.5 strikes seems wise at 12/5.

In light of four or more goals emanating from six of those past seven matches too, the 19/10 odds that at least 3.5 goals emerge from this game also make much appeal.

And betting on the timing of the net bulging can prove profitable as well, considering the Baggies have notched almost twice as many second-half goals as they have first this season.

The Toon have conceded 39 second-half goals in comparison to 20 first-half strikes this term too, indicating that the 29/20 odds about the hosts scoring most of their goals in the final period are worth taking.

Top-scorer Romelu Lukaku looks a good bet to contribute from a goalscoring perspective meanwhile, in light of one of his 13 Premier League strikes this term already coming against Newcastle.

The powerful hitman is 9/2 to break the deadlock, and 11/5 to register at any time during a Baggies success, as he has done in seven of their nine home victories this season.
