Roma v Lazio: Hosts set to end dominant Lazio run

Published:

Lazio have had the better of the Derby della Capitale in recent times, winning the last three.

However, that run followed a period or Roma dominance which saw the Giallorossi clock up five consecutive victories over the Biancocelesti and Aurelio Andreazzoli’s men finally look poised to put a smile back on the face of the red half of the city.

With an average of two goals per game the hosts boast the most potent goal threat in Serie A and they have now scored two or more goals in nine of their last 11 home games.

It is this form in front of goal that sees Roma priced as the 10/11 favourites to take all three points here.

The draw is currently priced at 13/5, but with 12 games passing since these two last shared the points, those fancying Roma to falter can back Vladimir Petkovic’s men to emerge victorious at 11/4.

The Scudetto is now well beyond both sides but with sixth-placed Lazio just three points ahead of Roma; the hosts’ have the added incentive of leapfrogging their arch rivals to spur them to victory.

Roma have won four of their last five games, drawing one of those matches, while Lazio have gone from victory to defeat for seven fixtures in a row.

If that run is to continue and provide Lazio with a six-point cushion over their rivals then strikers Hernanes and Miroslav Klose could again prove instrumental.

The German is his side’s top scorer this term with 10 goals from 21 games and is priced at 6/1 to open the scoring here.

And, while the Brazilian is in the midst of a dry spell – last scoring a league goal on January 19th – he has opened the scoring in five Lazio games so far and can be backed at 9/1 to do just that on Monday night.

Similarly, Roma will look to their two most prolific attackers to get them off to a flying start and Totti, who has bagged 11 goals this season, is the current favourite to get the game up and running at 5/1, while 13-goal Lamela offers 11/2 to achieve the feat.

One thing looks certain though and that is for both sides to find the net. Both teams have scored in four of the last five meetings meaning the 13/20 price on that run continuing could prove tempting.
