QPR installed at 7/1 to win next season’s Championship title
Harry Redknapp’s QPR have already been priced at 7/1 to win the Championship next season – despite the fact they’ve yet to be relegated.
In reality though, it’s surely only a matter of time before the Hoops’ fate is cemented, with the big-spending strugglers now seven points away from safety with six games remaining.
They are currently 1/40 to be relegated from the Premier League and there are reports that they’re already planning for life in the English second tier.
According to the Daily Mirror, QPR owner Tony Fernandes has already told Redknapp that a big clear out is required in the summer before they plan their Championship campaign.
The most likely casualty of the cull is Adel Taraabt who has been in and out of Redknapp’s team since he took over from Mark Hughes.
Other big names such as Loic Remy and Chris Samba could also be out of the door, with the likes of Tottenham Hotspur supposedly set to activate the former’s £8 million release clause.
It’s not all doom and gloom though with Jermaine Jenas stating that he wants to stay in west London even if the Hoops are relegated.
QPR made it to the Premier League without much of the squad that Redknapp is currently lumbered with and, while a big clear out sounds pretty disastrous, it will surely make some funds available for him to build a squad in his own image.
If he remains at Loftus Road – as is looking likely – his contacts in the Premier League should also ensure some decent loan signings and backing QPR to win the Championship could prove a decent long term bet.
