Soton v West Brom: Plenty of West Brom value in second half

Published:

Despite the league suggesting otherwise, West Brom still have plenty to play for this season.

In Steve Clarke’s impressive first season, the Baggies have a chance to record their highest ever Premier League finish. They will be aiming to claim ninth place and they are 11/4 to take all three points at St. Mary’s.

They are, however, in the midst of a fickle run of form, having won three, lost three and drawn two of the last eight.

While their results have been inconsistent, they have performed exceptionally well in the second half of all of these games. If the last eight games were comprised of the last 45 minutes alone, Albion would be undefeated and there is plenty of value to be had in the second half markets.

In five of the last eight games, West Brom have scored the majority of their goals in the second 45 minutes and it is 7/5 that that is the case again against Southampton. In only one of those games has the first half produced more West Brom goals, which is 5/2 with the tie at 23/20.

In their last game against Newcastle, they came back from 1-0 down to draw 1-1 thanks to a second half Billy Jones goal and in the half time/full time market, Southampton/draw looks a good bet at 14/1.

While many football purists would have been disappointed with Nigel Adkins’ dismissal from Southampton, it is difficult to argue with his replacement’s achievements since joining the Saints.

Mauricio Pochettino has guided the south coast club to 12th in the league. They are undefeated in the last six and have notched wins over Chelsea and Liverpool while they are 10/11 to pick up all three points here.

Their prowess in front of goal has helped propel them to these heights, with several players capable of finding the net. Their last three goals have been provided by three different players in Gaston Ramirez, Adam Lallana and Jay Rodriguez who are 7/1, 8/1 and 11/2 to open the scoring respectively.
