Peterborough v Sheff Wed: Hosts to prevail in high-scoring battle

Published:

Despite losing only one of their last 11 fixtures, Peterborough United have failed to pull away from the Championship relegation zone due to the form of those around them.

That only defeat did come in their last match however, with the 3-1 loss to Derby County at Pride Park leaving The Posh stuck on 51 points alongside the relegation zone-dwelling Wolverhampton Wanderers and Barnsley heading into the weekend.

On Saturday evening, Darren Ferguson’s side will perhaps welcome the visit of a Sheffield Wednesday outfit who are winless in their last three.

Wednesday have however managed to find the net in eight of their last 10 games, winning four, and up against a Peterborough side who have both scored and conceded in 29 of their 44 Championship matches this season then both teams to score at 8/13 is sure to entice many.

The case for Peterborough to win in a high-scoring contest is surely a more compelling one though.

Both teams have found the net in all of the last seven meetings between these two in both the Championship and League One, whilst the 5/4 Posh’s run of just one loss in their last nine matches at London Road is sure to point many towards the total result market. Peterborough to win with over 2.5 goals in the match is priced at 12/5.

If the hosts are to prove successful then top scorer Dwight Gayle is sure to have plenty of say in the matter.

But whilst Gayle has been prolific for the Posh this season, only four of his 13 goals were the first strike of the game, making the 11/2 on offer for him to score the first goal of the game avoidable.

A more enticing prospect is surely Peterborough to score over 2.5 goals in the match, which is priced at 7/2.
