Man City to make Uruguayan star Premier League’s highest paid player

After a disastrous foray into Europe for the second successive campaign, as well as being unable to match Manchester United in the Premier League, Roberto Mancini needs to bring about a marked improvement in City’s fortunes next time around if he wants to keep his job and, after admitting the business they conducted last summer was a key reason behind this term’s disappointments, he is expected to splash this cash this year.
His top target is one of Europe’s most sought-after hitmen, Napoli’s Uruguayan star, Edinson Cavani.
It is believed personal terms aren’t a long way from being agreed upon, as City have offered him a package thought to be in the region of £13.3m-per-year, or £256,000-per-week. This would make Cavani the highest paid player in the Premier League.
However, Real Madrid are also keen on the centre forward and, while they haven’t stumped up the same highly-inflated figures in his pay packet, the prestigious all-white strip is said to hold a stronger attraction than a potential move to Manchester does.
Having bagged 29 goals in 36 appearances in all competitions, it’s easy to see why Cavani is held in such high regard by City and, after their own strikers’ short-comings this year, most notably those of star man Sergio Aguero, who has only just managed to make it into double figures as far as league goals are concerned, the final third is an essential area where they must strengthen if they are to regain the Premier League crown.
The Citizens, who sit 13 points behind local rivals United with eight games to play, currently stand at 40/1 to win this season’s title.
