Man City boss Mancini sweats on future ahead of United clash

Roberto Mancini’s position as Manchester City boss is even more precarious than previously thought – at least according to the latest rumours from Fleet Street.

The Guardian is reporting that the Italian’s job will be reviewed at the end of the season following a disappointing year at the Etihad.

The Citizens’ defence of their Premier League crown never got going and they slumped out of the Champions League in the group stages for the second successive year.

Heading into the Manchester derby, they are (as City fans are all too aware) a pretty unassailable 15 points behind their neighbours at the top of the table and are a huge 80/1 to overhaul that difference and retain their crown.

However, they are still in the FA Cup and winning that competition for a second time would massively strengthen Mancini’s position.

They are 5/4 favourites to see off Chelsea in their semi final and are the 23/20 favourites to win the competition overall.

A trophy-less season would be a huge disappointment for City but, as their rivals United have shown in the past, it’s more than possible to come back the following year and snatch something shiny for the cabinet.

Mancini has made no secret of his disappointment with City’s transfer activities last summer and, if the former Inter Milan boss is backed in the market this time around, there is every reason to think things will be far closer.

He may be in a slightly precarious position but with City finally finding some form and the FA Cup still to play for it’s hard to see anyone else in charge at the Etihad when next season rolls around.
