Laudrup to return to La Liga to find Swansea a new defender
Michael Laudrup’s £10m triple assault on La Liga in the summer has proved money well spent and there is a strong chance that he will return to the Spanish top-flight to further bolster his squad in the upcoming close season.
With Europa League football secured, Swansea arguably need more depth to their squad, especially in defence and attack, where their options outside of the starting line-up look especially thin.
One defender linked with a possible summer move is former Barcelona defender Alberto Botia, who has been previously linked with Swansea earlier this season.
Botia has endured an interesting first season at Sevilla since signing from relegated Sporting Gijon, as he has started only 11 league games and seven of these have ended in defeat.
However, it is worth mentioning that he has been regularly called upon for the bigger occasions, starting both La Liga clashes with Barcelona, alongside the home win over Real Madrid.
It is unlikely that he would secure a regular first-team spot at Swansea either, as Chico Flores and Ashley Williams have developed a fine understanding this season, conceding only three goals in their last seven starts together.
Bayern Munich are also reportedly tempted in boosting their squad with Botia and there is a strong possibility that Pep Guardiola will bring some Spanish talent to the Allianz Arena next season to join Javi Martinez.
But with Laudrup already indicating through Flores, Michu and Pablo Hernandez this season that the Spanish way can thrive in Wales, this may be enough to turn Botia’s head, alongside the greater likelihood of more starts than at the German champions elect.
Winning a domestic trophy and finishing in the top ten this season would represent a successful season at Swansea and with part one already accomplished, it is 2/7 that Laudrup also completes the second step.
