Juventus v Bayern: Team line-ups point to an away win

Published:

Juventus were outplayed in every position in the first leg of their Champions League quarter final with Bayern Munich and more of the same can be expected in the return in Italy based on the line-ups both managers are expected to pick.

In the 2-0 defeat at the Allianz Arena, Juventus’ best two players were arguably Arturo Vidal and Stephan Lichtsteiner, but both will not take part in the second leg as they are banned.

Meanwhile, as the Juventus line-up will be that bit weaker, Bayern’s actually improves, with Javi Martinez coming back from a ban to probably replace Luis Gustavo.

These factors help make Bayern rightful favourites to win at the Juventus Stadium at 8/5.

Another factor is the fact that Bayern have won their last 10 away games in all competitions and they have netted at least twice on eight of these occasions.

This is also something they have achieved at Marseille and Arsenal in the Champions League this season and it is 6/4 that Bayern score either two or three in Italy.

Juventus’ five-game winning home run is solid form if not viewed alongside Bayern’s away exploits and they must almost certainly keep a clean sheet if they harbour real hopes of progressing.

A defeat at BATE in the Champions League is the only occasion Bayern have conceded three this season, let alone four, and Juventus are 11/4 to shut out the recently crowned Bundesliga champions.

The good news for Juventus is that they had kept four clean sheets in succession before selecting a weakened team against Pescara at the weekend to rest players for this. Meanwhile, they have clean sheets in 11 of their last 16.

Juventus are 9/5 to beat Bayern and 13/2 to ensure that Serie A has a representative in the Champions League semi finals.
