Hernandez the bait as Manchester United plot Atletico Madrid swoop

| 12.04.2013

Radamel Falcao’s future remains a hot topic of conversation, with Manchester United the latest club to express an interest in the much-coveted forward.

And so serious is Sir Alex Ferguson’s pursuit of the powerhouse Colombian, he is prepared to offer Javier Hernandez in part-exchange as he aims to persuade Atletico Madrid to do business.

Ferguson still sees Mexican hotshot Hernandez as an important part of his first-team plans, and knows that at just 24 years old, there is time for the poacher to improve further still.

But such is the regard he holds 27-year-old Falcao in, he is willing to part with £27m as well as former Chivas trainee Hernandez, who United value at £20m.

As such, Falcao’s £47m release clause would be met, and Atletico boss Diego Simeone could feasibly jump at the chance to snap-up a ready-made replacement for his star asset.

The Argentinian is currently taking all the speculation in his stride however, telling Spanish press: “Falcao is a great player and it’s logical that the best teams in the world are interested in him. It doesn’t surprise me.”

Chelsea have long led the chase for Falcao, who has struck 54 times in just two seasons in Spain, and also wish to complete a part-exchange deal for the striker, hoping to offload Fernando Torres in the other direction.

Whilst 29-year-old Torres enjoys a special rapport with Atletico fans though, the La Liga outfit may prefer to bring in a player at a more attractive age with far more considerable resale value.

And with Falcao almost certain to fancy a crack at the Premier League title with the champions-elect, and a serious bid for Champions League glory next term, a move to the Red Devils would appear most likely.

Although the Old Trafford faithful would be disappointed to see Hernandez leave Manchester, a new hero could very well be found in arguably the world’s hottest striking property.
