Dawn Approach can emulate Frankel and Camelot and become a legend

With superstars Frankel and Camelot both living up to expectation and proving too good in recent years, Dawn Approach’s connections will be reassured by the favourites’ record in the 2000 Guineas.

Currently the evens ante-post favourite, Jim Bolger’s charge was imperious as a two-year-old notching up six straight wins, the last of which was the lucrative Dewhurst Stakes at Newmarket.

That course win makes him an extremely attractive prospect this time out. Under a confident Kevin Manning ride he tracked the leaders until two furlongs out when he was niggled to stay in touch with the leader. Entering the final stages, he showed the turn of foot and staying power that justifies his price at Newmarket in May.

He will re-oppose a couple of rivals he had behind that day, including Aiden O’Brien’s George Vancouver, who was a subsequent winner in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf at Santa Anita and is now priced at 12/1 for the 2000 Guineas. Leitir Mor, who finished runner-up at Newmarket is 50/1.

Of course, that is not the only impressive accolade that Bolger’s charge has accrued over his short but impressive career.

He inflicted the only defeat of Olympic Glory’s career in the Coventry stakes, who has since gone on to win his last four races, all of which have been graded contests.

Those concerned that he has not run the full mile yet should have their fears allayed by the hot prospect’s pedigree. Sired out of 2008 Epsom Derby winner, New Approach, Bolger believes that he could probably even get the 1m2f.

His trainer thinks he is up there with the best he has worked with, and the fact he only looks bigger and stronger this year is an intimidating prospect. He could be the real superstar of the season on the Flat.
