Barcelona eyeing summer move for Man City’s captain Kompany

Manchester City captain Vincent Kompany is Barcelona’s big summer transfer target – if the latest rumours are to be believed.

According to the Mail on Sunday, Barcelona are keen to take the 26-year-old to the Nou Camp as a replacement for current captain Carles Puyol who has been struggling with injuries for the past few seasons.

Barca were allegedly chasing the Belgian during the reign of Pep Guardiola and the necessity of finding a replacement for Puyol appears to have reignited that interest.

However, it’s not as if City need the money and it would require Kompany to really push through the deal – especially as he signed a six-year contract with the Citizens last year.

While it may be hard to see Kompany heading to Spain, another move that looks far more likely is Andy Carroll’s return to Newcastle United.

The Magpies have struggled without the goals of Demba Ba in the second half of the season and Papiss Cisse hasn’t exactly taken on the net-finding duties himself, bagging just seven goals in his 29 Premier League appearances to date.

Despite the native north easterner being surplus to requirements at Anfield, he’s not going to be sold on the cheap and the Sunday Mirror reckons that he’ll cost the Magpies around £17million.

The Reds are reportedly interested in a proposed swap deal that would involve Newcastle midfielder Hatem Ben Arfa going to Anfield but may be put off by his poor injury record.

Finally, Liverpool are also keeping tabs on Vasco da Gama defender Dede and are willing to fight Italian side AC Milan for his signature.

The player’s agent, Giuliano Aranda, confirmed the Reds were eyeing the Brazilian international, saying: “There is interest from Liverpool but there have been no talks between me and that club.”

Brendan Rodgers needs a new centre back to replace the retiring Jamie Carragher who will finish at Anfield in the summer.
