Will it be Oxford or Cambridge who r-oar to victory?
Published:Sunday sees the 159th running of the Oxford-Cambridge boat race, with Ladbrokes in no doubt who will roar to success on the Thames this year.
Oxford start the race as clear favourites to record their 77th win in the event, with odds of 1/3 for the navy blue outfitted crew to be victorious and regain the title they last won in 2011.
However, Cambridge have a slight advantage in the crew line ups, with an average boat weight of 14st 7lbs and a height of 6ft 5in.
Their counterparts from Oxford line up with an average crew weight of 14st 13lbs, and height of 6ft 4ins.
Cambridge can call upon the experience of Czech powerhouse Milan Bruncvik whose experience includes a silver medal in the 2009 European championships and also competed in 2012 London Olympic Games.
With his presence in the Cambridge boat, they can be backed at 9/4 to come out ahead of their fierce rivals.
With events interrupted last time out, high profile umpire – a three time competitor for Oxford, and Olympic gold medallist – Sir Matthew Pinsent – is hoping for a more low key affair this time on the Thames.
We may not see a human interruption to proceedings this year, but the inclement weather may have its say, with any part of the race to be disrupted due to ice in the Thames a 10/1 shot, and snow to fall during the race between Putney Bridge and Chiswick Bridge at 33/1 both offering decent value.
The biggest bet of them all is for a repeat of proceedings in 1912, when both crews sank in the first running of the race. At 200/1, this may be worth looking at for punters searching for a long shot bet.
