Tottenham to raid Europe in double defensive summer swoop

Tottenham appear primed for another tilt at Champions League football next season, and should the club achieve a top-four finish, boss Andre Villas-Boas realises the need to strengthen his playing squad.

As such, the Spurs chief has already begun drawing up a list of potential summer additions, with the defensive area his priority point of concern.

And it is Sochaux right-back Sebastien Corchia who is his chief target, amidst an outstanding personal Ligue One campaign for the 22-year-old.

Corchia has attracted interest from some of Europe’s biggest clubs, with AC Milan, Juventus, Paris Saint-Germain and Bayern Munich all monitoring the player’s situation.

But Spurs are hopeful of enticing the promising Frenchman with the promise of regular first-team football, as Corchia aims to force his way into his country’s full international setup.

He would cost around £8m, and Tottenham could firm up their interest in the full-back with a bid as soon as they secure Champions League qualification, as they are favoured to do at 1/4.

Corchia is not the only defender Villas-Boas has expressed an interest in however, with the Portuguese coach also taking a serious look at Feyenoord’s Bruno Martins Indi.

Valued at around £5.5m, Indi can operate comfortably as a left-back or central defender, and his versatility is appealing to a Spurs outfit set to allow William Gallas’ contract to expire this summer.

Although he has three years remaining on his deal with the Eredivisie side, the 21-year-old starlet would welcome the opportunity to move to England’s top-flight, and play in Europe’s elite competition.

And the Dutch international could therefore become one of two Feyenoord defenders to make a Premier League move this summer.

Indeed, Liverpool have been heavily linked with Indi’s club and international team-mate Stefan de Vrij, and he could follow his compatriot to England by completing a switch to Anfield in the close-season.
