Sevilla v Celta Vigo: expect a cagy affair in southern Spain

Published:

Sevilla host Celta Vigo this Monday night with neither side in the most scintillating of form.

Celta Vigo may have won their last game – a 2-1 home victory against Granada – but that was their first win in seven matches and the first time in four they haven’t been defeated.

They are currently available at 5/1 to pick up all three points but their dire away form should put punters off backing them – even at those meaty odds.

They have only won once on the road in the league this term (a 1-0 victory at fellow strugglers Real Zaragoza) and have the worst away attack in the entire Spanish top tier, averaging just 0.69 goals per game.

Add into that the fact that Sevilla have the fourth best home record in La Liga – they’ve lost just three times at home this season and have seen off Real Madrid 1-0 – and it’s tough to see anything other than disappointment for the visitors.

Backing Sevilla to come out on top at 1/2 certainly looks like the most sensible of match bets.

However, Sevilla have found it hard to string results together in recent weeks and have won just one of their previous four league matches.

Admittedly, two of those games were defeats to Real and Barcelona but, with Celta Vigo beating their hosts 2-0 earlier in the season, there is at least some chance of an upset.

A draw wouldn’t be disastrous for either side so lumping come cash on them sharing the spoils at 10/3 looks worth some serious consideration.
