King of Stats: All of the numbers ahead of Cheltenham Festival

The Cheltenham Festival is finally here and punters will be keen to line their pockets over four days of top-quality action.

The King of Stats is also in confident mood and has found the following that will hopefully turn some Festival profit.

0 – Nicky Henderson has sent 46 runners to the Cheltenham Festival without a run for 66 days or more and none of them have won. This is bad news for a handful of his leading prospects this year, including both Bobs Worth and Long Run in the Cheltenham Gold Cup. Punters may therefore want to opt for Paul Nicholls’ Silviniaco Conti instead, who can be backed at 7/2.

38 – This is the number of years since a horse has regained the Champion Hurdle when Comedy of Errors triumphed in 1975, having previously won in 1973 and lost a year later. Hurricane Fly and Binocular are both bidding to improve upon this record this time and are 13/8 and 7/1 respectively to win the Champion Hurdle.

2 – There are only two horses at this year’s Festival to have run more than twice at Cheltenham and are still to lose at the course. Bobs Worth is 4-4 at the course and 5/2 to win the Cheltenham Gold Cup, with Shooters Wood 3-3 at Cheltenham and 14/1 to triumph in the Johnny Henderson Grand Annual.

5 – Not since Golden Miller in the 1930s has a horse won the same race at the Cheltenham Festival five times in a row. Quevega is out to emulate this achievement this year in the David Nicholson Mares’ Hurdle and is expected to do so based on her price of 2/5 for victory.

6 – Seven-year-olds have won each of the last six runnings of the RSA Chase. The decision of trainer David Pipe to run Dynaste in the Jewson Novices’ Chase threatens to end this streak, but Pipe does still have Goulanes in this age group and he is 6/1.

9 – All of the last nine winners of the Pertemps Final were sent off at a double-figure price, which does not bode well for the fancied Sam Winner. Ely Brown fits a couple of the trends for the race and is available at 16/1 to land the Pertemps.

1 – In the Ryanair Chase, only one ever winner has gone off at a bigger starting price than 6/1 and only one of the last five winners did not contest the King George in the same season. This is a boost to the chances of Cue Card, who is 3/1 to win the Ryanair.

5 – Five-year-old entrants in the County Hurdle have been responsible for five winners and a further five places in the last 10 years from just 48 total runners. Ranjaan leads the five-year-old charge this year and can be backed at 12/1.
