Cheltenham Festival: Follow all the live action from Gold Cup day

Published:

Good afternoon fellow racing fans! Can you wait until the first race of the final day of the 2013 Cheltenham Festival starts? There are seven top races to look forward to throughout the day, but what will tickle your fancy?

The centrepiece is the Gold Cup, which is down to just nine runners today and a change of jockey for one of the favourites, while the other six races will provide plenty more intrigue.

Most of the attention will be on the Gold Cup, arguably the biggest race of the entire Festival. Some of the finest horses, jockeys and trainers in the entire sport will compete for the massive £300,000-plus winners’ cheque as well as the prestigious trophy.

Two late changes have seen Sunnyhillboy withdraw from the big race, leaving AP McCoy free to ride Sir Des Champs after the original jockey withdrew through injury. Could this pre-race twist work in his favour?

A further development saw outsider Bog Warrior, who competed yesterday in the Ladbrokes World Hurdle withdraw, leaving us with a surprisingly small field.

With just a few hours to go until the 3:20pm meeting, Bob’s Worth is the favourite at 3/1, while Sir Des Champs is just a little further behind at 7/2.

As for the other runners, Long Run and Silviniaco Conti are joint-third favourites at 9/2 each. Cape Tribulation looks like a decent each-way prospect at 12/1.

Elsewhere, there are six more tantalising races for punters to get their teeth into. The Albert Bartlett Novices’ Hurdle will be just as hotly contested.

The favourite, At Fishers Cross, is available for 7/4 and will have the steady hand of A P McCoy guiding him all the way.

The day kicks off at 13.30 with the JCB Triumph Hurdle, which promises to get the final day off to a great start.

Rolling Star is the 3/1 favourite, but faces a strong challenge from Our Conor and Far West, ridden by Ruby Walsh, who has the Midas touch this week.

Game on!
