Cardiff still huge favourites for Championship after Boro loss

Cardiff City remain the massive 1/6 favourites to win the Championship this season – despite their disappointing 2-1 defeat at Middlesborough on Saturday.

Goals from Kieron Dyer and Sammy Ameobi saw the Bluebirds lose their second game in three Championship matches to allow Hull to move within five points of Cardiff at the top of the English second tier.

The Tigers have played a game more than their title rivals though and face a tough midweek game at Crystal Palace.

Hull are the 2/1 outsiders to beat Ian Holloway’s men and are out at 7/1 to gain promotion to the Premier League as Championship winners.

Watford are creeping up in the race for automatic promotion and are arguably the form team.

They’ve lost just one of their previous ten Championship games and are currently two points behind Hull in second place.

An early punt on them getting promotion at 5/6 is certainly something well worth consideration.

Meanwhile, things are getting rather tight in the chase for the play-off places with Leeds United, Middlesborough and Nottingham Forest all winning and moving to within touching distance of Brighton in sixth.

Boro look best equipped to mount a serious promotion bid though after their win at Cardiff ended a run of four games without a victory.

They are currently 12/1 to be promoted while Forest are a slightly shorter 10/1 to return to the Premier League.

Cardiff have just missed out on promotion via the play-offs in the last three seasons but this time it looks as though their long wait for top tier football will finally come to an end.

They are a tiny 1/40 to be playing Premier League football next season.
