Arsenal in trouble as 4pm Sunday is Spurs’ favourite TV slot
Published:It may be an old-school attitude to prefer football matches to kick off at 15:00 on a Saturday afternoon, but demand for television coverage has resulted in games taking place at various times on different days of the week.
In the Premier League, this could be a 12:45 or 17:30 start on a Saturday, Monday at 20:00 or a host of different periods on a Sunday.
The primetime slot is at 16:00 and this is a real headliner this week with Tottenham hosting Arsenal, with the clash not only valuable for north London bragging rights, but also for an edge in the tense race for a top-four Premier League finish.
Tottenham are slight favourites with home advantage at 5/4 and given their recent record in his particular slot, this is not a price to turn down.
Over the course of the last three seasons, Tottenham have kicked off on Sunday at 4pm on 18 occasions, losing just twice.
Some 10 of these clashes have ended in victory, which is the only slot from the numerous times on offer in this period where their win rate is better than 50 per cent.
Furthermore, of their 10 top-flight games this season at this time, Spurs have won seven times, including four of the five at home. The one non-victory was against Manchester United.
However, what else should be noted about Spurs’ Sunday games is that they have not been especially prolific in front of goal.
In their last six on a Sunday, Andre Villas-Boas has watched his team scored exactly one on five occasions, all of which have been scored in the second half.
It is 21/10 that Tottenham’s first goal against Arsenal comes in the second period at White Hart Lane.
