14:40 Cheltenham: Our Vinnie to relish 3m stamina test

Published:

The one thing that is needed more than anything in the Albert Bartlett Novices’ Hurdle is vast reserves of stamina and the way Our Vinnie has grinding out results this season indicates he has the tools for the job at 8/1.

It is At Fishers Cross that is the clear favourite at 9/4 and the fact that he is the only entrant in the field that has previous winning form at Cheltenham gives him a clear edge.

Five of the eight winners of the Albert Bartlett had previously run at Cheltenham at least twice and at At Fishers Cross is one of only two runners to satisfy this criteria this time, along with rank outsider Virginia Ash.

The New One’s triumph earlier in the week is another fillip to his chances, as At Fishers Cross outstayed the Neptune winner on his latest start.

He literally ticks every box as he has decent experience of big fields and is hard to oppose.

However, given the size of the field and the shortness in price of the favourite, there is some each-way value to be had and Our Vinnie leads the options at 14/1.

Most noteworthy was a victory over Rule The World in November, who chased home The New One in the Neptune.

Meanwhile, trainer Charles Byrnes has a fine record in the race, saddling Ireland’s first winner in the race with Weapon’s Amnesty in 2009 and then watching Powerstation and Liskennett claim bridesmaid honours.

Meanwhile, punters struggling to make a firm decision on the Cheltenham Gold Cup may want to pick a horse at random with this roulette wheel.
