The January transfer window is an exciting time for football fans the world over.

This season’s window was pretty frantic as Premier League clubs like QPR, Newcastle United and West Ham desperately searched for reinforcements. The likes of Arsenal left it until deadline day to get what they needed, while West Brom were the only top-flight club to not make a single signing last month.

Our infographic shows in detail what happened this January, as struggling clubs looked to try and bring in quality players, with the most active being QPR. Bottom of the Premier League table, QPR’s need to improve on their current squad was great.

Always capable of pulling a few rabbits out of the hat during this time of year is Hoops boss Harry Redknapp and he brought six new faces to Loftus Road, including two of the most expensive signings of the window in England.

Odemwin-going nowhere

During transfer deadline day, Twitter was abuzz with gossip from fans, journalists, ex-players and tipsters. At one point, Twitter crashed due to the sheer volume of tweets being sent, showing how much January 31st means to supporters.

Arguably the most interesting story of the day was the Peter Odemwingie saga. The West Brom forward was linked with a move to QPR, and had done all he could to engineer a transfer to west London. He tried to hand in a transfer request and even said he was looking forward to moving before a deal had been done.

Having travelled to the ground at his own accord, he was informed by both Redknapp and his current club that he wasn’t going anywhere due to failure to agree a transfer fee. Embarrassed, Odemwingie returned to The Hawthorns with his tail between his legs!

A total of £120million was spent last month by Premier League clubs, but this figure pales in comparison to 2011 when a whopping £215million was spent. Elsewhere, Mario Balotelli’s move to AC Milan and David Beckham’s arrival at PSG in France grabbed headlines, making this window one of the most eventful ever.
