Scotland v Wales: Halfpenny to hurt hosts in Six Nations

With so much riding on Wales’ Six Nations trip to Scotland as both teams are locked on four points it’s hard to call a winner, but the visitors’ Leigh Halfpenny will have a big say.

Despite not going over the line himself in a thumping 26-9 win in over Italy in Rome, the Wales full-back was still the star of the show, racking up 16 points from the boot.

Against the Scots the Cardiff Blues man is available at 7/2 to register a try at any time as he did in the Dragons’ opening game defeat by the Irish.

Halfpenny has great memories of playing the Scottish too, having crossed the line twice against them just last year en-route to the Grand Sam.

This time the scenario is slightly different as Scotland and Wales face off at Murryfield knowing the winner – mathematically at least – will still have a chance of winning the championship on the last weekend.

The Scottish are riding the crest of a wave as they go in search of a first Six Nations victory since Italy were added to the competition in 2000.

However, standing in the way of that achievement are the reigning Grand Slam champions, who clinched an impressive victory in France before pummelling Italy last time around.

One thing is for sure, if Scotland surrender as much possession to Wales as they did in scraping past Ireland, then given the quality the Welsh possess in the back-line, they’ll be punished.

The Scots have a definite weakness in midfield to exploit, where they are deploying Sean Lamont as a centre, when he’s really a winger.

If the Welsh back three can get a run on the Scottish defence then their skill with overlapping could see any one of George North, Alex Cuthbert or Halfpenny prosper.

Wales are favourites to secure the win at 1/2, with Scotland available at 15/8.
