Rooney to retire at Man Utd more likely than PSG move

PSG may have the finances to sign Wayne Rooney and may have persuaded David Beckham to join for the remainder of the season, but there is little to suggest that the Man Utd striker will depart for France in the summer.

Given that Robin van Persie has had such a positive impact at Old Trafford, this has taken the gloss off Rooney and there is a tendency to believe that he has had a fairly quiet campaign out of the spotlight.

But this is far from the truth as Rooney has scored 14 goals in all competitions for Man Utd this season.

A move into a slightly deeper position has not helped his goal chart, as he has been at his most productive in the past when allowed to lead the line.

This is not a role he would get to play at PSG either with Zlatan Ibrahimovic for competition and there is no way he will be dropped, while he is not overly versatile when it comes to switching positions, with the Swede’s workrate leaving a little to be desired.

Furthermore, another attacker is the last thing PSG need, unless the Rooney rumour is a cover for a current squad member leaving in the summer.

Carlo Ancelotti is already having difficulty implementing all of his attacking options, managing to start Ibrahimovic, Ezequiel Lavezzi, Javier Pastore and Lucas Moura in the recent win over Marseille, even if this made the team weaker defensively as runners were not being tracked back.

This is understandable given that this foursome approximately cost a combined €135m, with Moura the most expensive January recruit in world football.

Taking everything into consideration, including the fact that many Man Utd first teamers remain at the club for life, 6/1 is a better bet that Rooney remains at Old Trafford until retirement, in comparison to the 3/1 that PSG are his next club.
