Odemwingie off to Championship in bid to save his season

Peter Odemwingie may not have secured his wanted deadline-day switch to QPR, but it seems that he will be offered an escape route to London after all.

Odemwingie almost certainly has no future left at West Brom, which leaves three options realistically for the remainder of the season.

The first is to bumble along and watch his stock fall over the rest of the campaign, while hoping for a lucrative move in the summer.

The second is look for a move overseas to a league where a later transfer window is in force, with one such option being a return to Russia.

Or thirdly, he could attempt to take advantage of the emergency loan window in England and attempt to resurrect his career this way.

This is reportedly the most likely and despite recently acquiring Kevin Phillips and Stephen Dobbie, Crystal Palace are weighing up an approach for Odemwingie.

Ian Holloway clearly has money at his disposal to keep Palace’s Championship promotion bid on track, following the £10m sale of Wilfried Zaha to Manchester United, even though they have him back on loan.

Odemwingie could fit in on the left side of a three-pronged attack, opposite Zaha, with 24-goal Championship man Glenn Murray the focal point of the attack.

Palace currently sit fifth in the Championship standings, but are only two points adrift of the automatic promotion places, despite a run of just two victories in their last ten league outings.

They are 3/1 to be promoted to the Premier League this season.

A regular alternate goal source to Murray would undoubtedly help their cause, especially as they have failed to find the target in three of their last four in the Championship.

Furthermore, his experience will be a telling positive, given that only a few of the current Palace squad have any Premier League or international experience.
