Newcastle and Spurs star in five top Premier League bets

Published:

The Premier League is now entering the business end of the season and plenty of time remains for lots of twists and turns in both the upper and lower echelons of the table.

Here are five bets that look to offer some value with 12 games remaining.

Newcastle: Top North East club @ 17/20

It is Sunderland that have finished above Newcastle in two of the last three seasons that the north east rivals have been in the same division and they currently hold a two-point cushion over in the present campaign.

Newcastle had been above their neighbours all season until Boxing Day, but can re-establish their superiority now that their January recruits seem set to help them climb the table.

What is also worth noting is that Newcastle have secured at least four points more than Sunderland across the last 12 fixtures of the last two Premier League seasons.

Man Utd: Top Divisional Handicap table @ 1/1

Full reasoning for why Man Utd will top this particular table can be found here, with Sir Alex Ferguson’s side having to make up 12 points on Swansea over the remainder of the campaign.

The Red Devils always finish the season strongly and have accrued more points both at home and away individually already in the Premier League this season.

Stoke: Finish in bottom half @ 23/20

Sitting around the middle of the table on approximately 30 points in early February has become commonplace for Stoke in the last three Premier League seasons.

What has also become common is that they slack slightly in the home straight and end up finishing in the bottom half.

One win in their last seven suggests this season may be no different to the norm.

Southampton: Top Promoted club @ 6/4

Southampton’s only defeat in the last nine has been at Old Trafford and the early signs are that Mauricio Pochettino is going to help them improve further.

West Ham remain odds-on in this market, but the Hammers have the tougher run in with five of the current top half still to play away.

Furthermore, they have lost nine of their last 14 to begin to freefall down the table, allowing Southampton to get to within three points of them.

Tottenham: Top London club @ 3/1

Spurs not only have Gareth Bale in flying form, but they have still only lost one game this season with Mousa Dembele in their side.

Chelsea still have to travel to Old Trafford and the Etihad, which is a big negative to their hopes in this market, while Arsenal tend to struggle to string victories together and have five points to make up on their London rivals.
