Guptil can lead New Zealand to T20 series win over England

Published:

Martin Guptil has scored the most runs so far in the T20 series between New Zealand and England and the best bets relating to the crunch decider is how well he will perform with the bat.

The series is tied at 1-1 heading to the Westpac Stadium in Wellington, with England favourites for victory at 8/11.

However, the hosts look fine value at 11/10 and this is not solely based on the conviction of their 55-run triumph in Hamilton to level the series.

New Zealand’s only previous T20 encounter at the Westpac in the last 12 months resulted in a six-wicket win over South Africa, while they have only lost one of their last nine ODI’s at the ground.

Not only has Guptil already scored 91 runs in his two innings’ with England this series, but in the aforementioned victory over South Africa, he hit a match-winning 78 off 55 ballls, which is the highest T20 score currently registered in an international at the ground.

He certainly deserves a 50 against England given his knocks of 47 and 44 so far and it is 10/3 that he registers a 50 here.

Alternatively, Guptil can be backed at 5/6 to score 21 runs or more and he does average virtually 35 in the shortest form of the game.

Meanwhile, this bet would have landed in each of Guptil’s last five T20 appearances, dating back to October last year.

The other bet involving Guptil that interests is the 11/10 that he contributes at least three fours against England in the third T20.

He has done so in both of his previous two T20 appearances at the Westpac and in both meetings with England in the current series.
