Flores injury means both Swansea and Bradford goals in final

| 22.02.2013

Chico Flores will not pass his fitness test to play in Swansea’s first ever League Cup final and this enhances the prospects of both the Premier League club and League Two Bradford scoring at Wembley.

Flores ruptured his ankle ligaments in the recent win over QPR and despite heading back to Barcelona in the hope of making a swift recovery, which include some training on the beach, he has not sufficiently recovered.

As big as a blow this injury is for Flores, it may actually be good news for punters on two counts.

Firstly, Swansea’s win percentage is greater this season with Flores out of the side, improving from 36 per cent with him to exactly 50 per cent when he has been absent.

Swansea are 2/5 to beat Bradford without Flores.

However, this enhanced winning mentality has nothing to do with the Swans tightening up at the back, with Michael Laudrup’s men failing to keep a single clean sheet in the 10 games without the Spanish centre back.

This will give Bradford confidence of scoring on their own debut in a League Cup final and it is 5/6 that they net at least once at Wembley.

But punters prepared to back this may as well take the 1/1 that both teams score, given that few will anticipate a Bradford clean sheet in the final.

Going one step further still, 12/5 may now look an enticing price that Swansea win a final in which both teams are on target.

Both teams had scored in six straight Swansea games when Flores had been absent until the 5-0 Premier League defeat at Liverpool, although Laudrup also decided to rest a host of other first-teamers at Anfield to keep them fit for Bradford.
