The eyes of the world will be on Lance Armstrong when chat show host Oprah Winfrey interviews him for the first time since his incredible fall from grace in the wake of the doping scandal that has left his reputation in tatters.

Once lauded as one of the greatest sportsman of all time after winning the Tour de France seven times and universally respected for the manner in which he beat cancer, Armstrong was revealed last year by the United States Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) to have been involved in “the most sophisticated, professionalised and successful doping programme that sport has ever seen”.

The bombshell announcement in October sent shockwaves through cycling and sport.

The 41-year-old had repeatedly professed his innocence whenever he was quizzed on the issue of using performance-enhancing drugs through his career.

Armstrong has duly been stripped of his Tour de France titles and Pat McQuaid, International Cycling Union president, blasted: “Lance Armstrong has no place in cycling; he deserves to be forgotten in cycling.”

Winfrey will now chat to Armstrong on American TV to hear his side of a story that has hogged the headlines over the past few months.

Will the Texan publicly admit to doping? Here we look at what he could say during one of the most eagerly-anticipated sporting interviews ever.
