Three awesome iPad sports apps you should download

Published:

If you became the proud owner of a shiny new iPad over Christmas then you’ll probably be in need of some app inspiration.

It can be difficult to decide what to download and what to dismiss with thousands of apps available, especially as you have to pay for so many of them.

Here we have picked out three addictive sports apps worth playing after testing them out for ourselves – give them a go!

Score! (free)

Anyone who downloaded the iTunes 12 Days of Christmas app that gave users a host of freebies over the festive period and downloaded Score! will be the first to agree that it is an absolute gem of an app.

Recreate classic international goals from the present day right back to the 1980s and relive the best strikes from the World Cup and European Championships as well.

At first glance, this game appears a little basic. Pass the ball between the players and try and score world-class goals.

It’s not particular difficult either – although I’m yet to complete it myself – but there’s something brilliantly addictive about pretending to be Dennis Bergkamp against Argentina in 1998, trying to emulate that Roberto Carlos free-kick against France or defying geometry with Marco van Basten’s volley.

NFL Kicker 13 (69p)

Excitement levels are building for the climax of the NFL season – and you can test your cool under pressure with NFL Kicker 13.

Attempt audacious long-distance kicks as you battle against the elements to try and help your club to grow. Anybody familiar with the ‘flick’ range of sports games should have no problems getting stuck into this app quickly.

Pick your favourite American football team and then clock up the points over a series of different kicking challenges.

Darts Night (free)

If you, like me, are always looking for the best free apps available for your tablet then Darts Night is unlikely to disappoint.

Step up to the oche and play in tournaments, try different challenges or simply practise with your arrows to get better. Once you get the hang of hitting the doubles and trebles you’ll soon progress, but initially it is difficult.

The pass and play function will make that next car or train car journey with your mates that little bit easier and you can fill your trophy cabinet if you beat the likes of Tony ‘Big Daddy’ Ledger, Andy ‘Chunk’ McQuillan and Jim ‘Be Bad’ Mitchell.
